HOUSE PASSES HUNTER BILL TO SAVE MT. SOLEDAD MEMORIAL
All House Republicans vote yes, joined by majority of House Democrats, except Filner and Davis
Ron Nehring, Chairman of the Republican Party of San Diego County and Vice Chairman of the California Republican Party, issued the following statement following the U.S. House of Representatives vote to preserve the Mt. Soledad Memorial with HR 5683.
All Americans today won a tremendous victory for our veterans as the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to protect the Mt. Soledad memorial by acquiring the land on which the memorial stands.
The Republican Party of San Diego County unanimously endorsed Proposition A on the 2005 special election ballot to protect the memorial. Today's vote in the House of Representatives moves us another step closer to protecting this San Diego landmark.
In a strong bipartisan vote of 349 to 74, all Republicans in the House were joined by a majority of Democrats to protect the memorial. Sadly, San Diego County's two Democrat House members demonstrated just how out of touch they are with San Diegans as they voted with the minority of Democrats against the measure.
